Oh what a week! It’s Dr Seuss week! At the Golden Key we love Dr. Seuss and his books and ideas. He has given so much to the world of literature and we love to share his books with our children. It’s great to hear them say those lines we grew up with too. Did you know……Dr. Seuss’ real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel; Although he is famous for his children books, he never had any children himself; “Green Eggs and Ham” was written on a dare, after a publisher bet him $50 he couldn’t write a book using only 50 different words; and Seuss had a closet next to his studio filled with hats sent to him from children around the world! Just a few tidbits on him.
Literacy is always emphasized at The Golden Key. Each month through the year, we highlight a different author, sharing that author’s books as well as activities to highlight those books. The Stark County bookmobile visits our center twice monthly- and those days are looked forward to. Just the ability to get on the “bus”, be surrounded by books ,and have a story and activity shared with you is heaven! AND we get to take books back to our class! We continue to add materials to our reading curriculum to provide all of our students a means to access the ability to read.
In the days of technological usage, we must say, there is still nothing comparable to the experience of a great book!
